Emily Merritt

Emily Anne Merritt is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing. She has been practicing medicine as a neo-natal intensive care nurse for the last three years. Last year, Emily participated in a Traveling Nurse program which gave her the opportunity to experience working in a variety of hospital NICU’s in Dallas as well as in Long Beach, CA.

Emily has been a Christian since she was only 3 years old and has been serving the Lord her entire life. She was always very active in church which continued throughout high school and college. Emily has always had a heart for missions and has participated in various missionary and outreach efforts through the churches that she has attended. At the present time, she is an active member of Fellowship Church at the Dallas Uptown branch.

Last summer, Emily felt called to join a team of Christian missionary medical professionals to go to Sudan, Africa for two weeks. The team brought supplies and medicine to administer vaccinations to orphans and staff members and to treat various illnesses at both the orphanage in Yei and in the surrounding villages. This area of Sudan is very remote and does not have medical facilities or medical professionals to assist the local people.

All year, Emily has felt her heart stirring towards the beautiful children of Sudan and has planned on a return trip this summer. However, God had more of a commitment in mind for her. Both resident nurses that have been assisting the orphanage the past few years are retiring in August. The orphanage is a ministry of Harvesters Reaching the Nations and they approached Emily at the first of the year to consider joining the team for an extended stay. Without hesitation, she agreed to serve for one year.
